READING WIDE IN ISLAM
Delivered by;
Dr. Abdulqadir Abdullateef Ola
قال تعالى: " اقرأ باسم ربك الذي خلق".
(Read in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created). Chapter96:1.
All thanks given to Almighty Allah.
Today's topic concerns " Wide Reading".
The first verse revealed to the prophet Muhammad (SAW) talks about reading and learning.
Learning is paramount for humanity as a whole, and Muslims in specific.
Moreover, Muslims should cultivate the habit of reading to attain the highest level of understanding and reward, the more learned you are, you will attain the highest of rank in sight of Allah.
As far as reading is concerned, we should embark on reading the holy Quran before learning any other knowledge, the Quran is light to quench the darkness of ignorance.
We should marry between materialistic and spiritual (metaphysical) aspects.
However, spiritual, Allah revealed the Quran to inculcate the best of character in the heart of humanity, Islam takes care of physical( materialistic) as well spirituality.
Allah the Almighty says: ( فإذا قضيت الصلاة فانتشروا في الأرض وابتغوا من فضل الله)
(When the prayer is finished, then may ye disperse through the land, and seek of the Bounty of Allah, and celebrate the praises of Allah often (and without stint ) that ye may prosper. Chapter 62:10.
On this note, I urge my fellow brothers and sisters to excert utmost effort in marrying between materialistic and spiritual aspect and start first with spiritual before going for the materialistic.
Allah says: وابتغ فيما آتاك الله الدار الآخرة ولا تنس نصيبك في الدنيا".
But seek with the (Wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee the Home of the Hereafter, nor forget your portion in this world). Chapter 28:77.
