Before The End Comes by Gbadegesin .R. Adedoja

    BEFORE THE END COMES

    By Adedoja .R. Gbadegesin

Before the morning sun hits its horizon, let us say a word of prayer for the souls we lost, for the beautiful ones that left before a new dawn.  We might never get the chance to bid them farewell, as we would soon get busy with our plans, we would soon forget their faces and move on with life, achieving feats, making groundbreaking history.

I know our resolutions are ready, well planned, strategically structured, and built to withstand all sorts of weather, strong enough to survive the storms of brokenness (God forbid in a new year).  Of course, we would pretend, move on like the events of that year did not shake us as if we didn’t feel its effects on our hearts, soul, even our pockets.

Of course, we have learnt from our mistakes, we will definitely not make the same this time. We are so determined to let go of the past, ready to face new odds, tackle every obstacle, and live a new free life. We have said all these, as if we did not say it the year before and the one before it and the one we said the first time we ever said it.

Now, let us pause, take a deep breath, we have been planning so carefully, so we need it anyways, our beautifully planned year as contained, has a lot we need to do. Some, as serious as hitting, the first billion, some as trivial as finally learning how to twerk.  How much have we considered the possibility of a negative thing happening, say like sickness or even death? It is the real thing, should we continue living, pretending as if this will not happen someday, or one day.

The reality of this masterpiece that takes life from us is that, it never informs you of its coming it just comes. It gives you the luxury of making beautiful plans that spans across months, years. It prevents us from seeing that our plans are a smokescreen that blinds our sight to the absolute reality that one day it will all end.

It is easy to say; this year I want to start my own business, buy a car before the end of the year. The gist is not to make plans; the idea is not that we should not make these resolutions. The main point however is to really do them, are you hoping to start that business after all, write the business plan today, scout for the materials you need, start doing it even if the start is small, start it.

The greatest killer of dreams that we know is procrastination, but it will never dawn on us until something is about to take life away from us. The life we have is a gift but could be taken at anytime. However at the point it is being taken, would we really be satisfied with what we have achieved with it.

New Year resolutions are more like land marks, they only show us signs to follow to reach a destination, they do not actually bear the struggles, hustles we have to go through to achieve our dreams. We should not just make plans at the beginning of the year, to mark a new beginning; we should work hard to actually achieve those dreams before the end comes.

    2. This is a really nice peace. As much as we plan towards achieving set goals, we should prepare for the day it all ends to.

    5. Simple, real and very apt.
Contains good advice, but a little bit of thought provoking questions here and there wouldn't have been a bad idea.
      P.s: my opinion.
