How to discover your Purpose
By; Omisore Mayowa Emmanuel
The purpose of a man is the reason for which a man is created by his/her creator. Without purpose, a man has no meaning because the essence of creating something or a man is to use for a purpose. For instance, the essence of creating a chair is for people to sit on and bring comfort to them, so before the creation of a thing, the creator already has a purpose in his heart and will pattern the substance in a way He wants to use the thing for. Therefore, as a man and a living being, it is the creature's business to discover his/her purpose by asking the creator.
This article focuses on how a man can discover his/her purpose, and two major methods are discussed below. They are:
1. Speculation: This is the first method of discovering your purpose, speculation simply means the process of meditating or thinking over a particular thing. So, you need to engage your mind in discovering some pointer that will lead you to your purpose. These speculations are:
a. Passion: Passion means the things or skills that drive you or whatever you can spend much time on and always derive happiness and joy when doing it, atimes you do it better than most people because of your continuous practice on those things or skills. Your passion is a key pointer to discovering your purpose because your creator has deposited these skills in you as part of your make up in fulfilling your purpose and destiny.
b. Potential: Potential is an inherent ability, untapped ability, hidden talents, dormant ability, capped capability in a man. Your potential is not what you have carried out or done but it is what you are yet able to do. Whatever you have excellently accomplished in life is no longer a potential. So, there is a need to go beyond what you have done in order for you to experience and encounter your full potential. In discovering this potential, you begin to develop yourself more by studying more books on potentials and personal development. Personal development is the greatest investment you can do for yourself. So, your potentials also point you to your purpose. In discovering this purpose, you tend to begin to fulfil the purpose.
c. Challenges: Challenges is also a pointer to your purpose. Some pains and challenges you pass through as a person will serve as a pointer to your purpose. Your creator is not the originator of those pains and challenges because His plans towards you are the plans of good and to bring you to an expected end, but He will permit those challenges and pains because He knows they will build you, make you stronger and also make you want to solve the problem. For instance, a young man who had a serious heartbreak in his relationship because his girlfriend suddenly ended the relationship, he was so heart-broken that it affected him so much, it pushed him to learn more on relationships and have a deeper understanding on relationship by studying books, going for relationships seminars, studying the word of God in order for people not to go through the kind of pain he went through. Moreover, this pain pushed him to learn more about that area and he became a solid marriage counsellor and really helped himself and many people in relationships and marriage issues. So, his pains and challenges pointed him to his purpose.
2. This method is the most accurate and reliable method of discovering your purpose. This method involves you engaging the realm of the Spirit, through the means of communicating with your creator or maker. For instance, as a Christian, you need to meditate on the Word of God and spend time with God in the name of Jesus in the secret place to know His counsel and purpose about your life. Though out of your creator's infinite wisdom, He might decide not to inform you about all at once but He will surely be revealing to you progressively as you get closer to Him and know Him the more.
In conclusion, the speculation method is a good method of knowing your purpose but not the best method of knowing your full purpose because your spirit is the access through which you get access and link to your creator, therefore the best method is still the revelatory procedure because it involves you asking your creator personally and He is the only one that has the original plan with Him. Your purpose is determined by God but your destiny or the path you want to follow in fulfilling your purpose is up to you to decide
