The relationship between parents and children is very important in any family that wishes to be united and wants to grow. In a situation where there is a gap between the parents and children, you find out that the children find it difficult to confide in their parents, thereby making them to seek advice from friends who may lead them astray.
    Some parents become so busy for their children that they don't bother asking about the everyday life of each child and are not even aware of some things going on in the life of their children. When the child decide to speak up and talk to them on something bothering him/her, it's either they are busy, or they shout the child to silence because they fail to understand the message the child is trying to pass across to them.
   In some families, parents have become like terrorists, when children hear them coming, they all run into hiding, they become so scared of their parents that they rehearse well before approaching them for anything. The parents take all decisions concerning the life of the child without his/her opinion not putting into consideration how the child feels or want.
     Providing the needs of a child only, is not enough to groom children, there has to be times when the parents should sit with the child and have a heart to heart discussion, every child should be able to discuss issues bothering him/her with either parent, there should be a flow of communication between them.
      It is OK for parents to discipline their children, as this is a popular believe and practice in African homes, but not to the point of the child becoming so scared of the parents. Children who are scared of talking to their parents are likely to live a rough life since they are taking advice from the wrong persons, before the parents knows what is going on, it might be too late.
   Creating a good relationship with children is one of the best thing any parent can give to their child, they become so free to talk about any thing and everything with their parents because they see them as best friend and role models. Having either parents or both as best friends is one of the best gifts any child can have.
