Covid-19 could lower Drug addiction

Today, drug addiction is another pandemic problem almost all countries are facing in the world today . Sadly, the youths are vunerable to drug addiction and this brings a lot of negative effect to the society at large. Drug addiction affects one's physical appearance, mental health and total wellbeing. It also leads to violent behavior like armed robbery, murder, prostitution, and many other criminal activities.
Now, due to the present situation we find ourselves (covid 19 pandemic), we could possibly say there would be a reduction in drug intake due to the lockdown in virtually every state and restrictions of movement of people are highly prohibited, in order to reduce the rapid spread of the virus. As a result, drug users might not be able to reach their cliques, and their consumption areas respectively. This hinders them from getting more addictive drugs. Another factor which hinders drug addiction is that almost all liquor stores and the likes, have been shut down.
By this, we could deduce that covid 19 has played a role in lowering the rate of drug consumption in the society due to the factors mentioned above. Also, fear has been installed on smokers that even after the pandemic the virus has to do with the swelling of oesophagus, dryness in the throat, difficulty when breathing and all other symptoms. A lot of addicts might not continue as they might experience some of these signs and the fear of covid 19 would therefore hinder drug intake. I believe covid 19 cannot tackle this problem totally because it would take the contribution of both government and citizens, my hope is covid 19 could reduce the drug addiction rate in Nigeria by 50%.
