Balancing Education and Tradition among Northern Females by Rabi'a Aminu Daneji

Balancing Education and Tradition among Northern Females.

As we all know, both elements are important in people's lives especially among female notherners. Tradition is fascinating but when we spend precious moments, constantly preserving adoring tradition and leaving behind education, it tends to become unproductive. Education and tradition contribute immensely and improves one's standard of living one way or another, what we should be concerned here is how these two can be balanced in such a way that one does not overshadow the other, they have to go hand in hand.

Therefore, certain things must be carried out in order to maintain the balance. Education and tradition shouldn't always be practiced solely, this needs to change as the world is changing.

Females, especially northerners, are known for their roles, duties and responsibilities in the home/family. She stays at home and take care of the family and the entire household. But when she is educated or into education, she has to go out to school or workplace, she has to be strong and struggle in making sure she balance the two aspects.

Also as in case of traditional practices such as the way of dressing should go in line with the tradition but in a modernize way, balance also comes to play. The same thing with food, forms of marriage, ceremonies etc shouldn't entirely change, instead, it should be done in an educated manner.

It is safe to say striking a balance between education and tradition is possible especially among female notherners. Paying due allegiance to culture and tradition as at when due is good but education shouldn't be put aside as it remains the key to success and it gives unlimited opportunities in life. Be educated culturally!!
