Six Steps to venture into Agriculture

 Firstly, what is Agriculture?.

Agriculture in a layman definition, is the art of cultivating plants and rearing of livestock for man and his industrial uses. It has been the genesis of civilization, agriculture gave man the purpose to appreciate life and it made him better his survival techniques.

- You don't need a huge space to get into agricultural business. Below are few ways one can venture into Agriculture and it's value chain.

Product processing and preservation, Harvesting services, Products Logistics, Product Packaging , Storage Facilities, Supplying of Farm Machinery Services, Livestock farming (Animal Fattening), Growing Of Medicinal plants, Fruits and Vegetable Market, Production of animals feeds and supply.


1. Product processing and preservation:

 This is a field of agriculture that focuses on increasing crop products life, It adds value to crops by increasing its life span and keeping farm products available in time of scarcity. i.e Fruits can be processed to natural fruit juice, yam to yam flour and groundnut to butters etc.

2. Harvesting services:

 The Use of crude tools in harvesting, gives farm produce low pricing due to damages that would be incured on the crop produce while harvesting. Therefore, harvesting service is another important channel of agriculture that needs urgent attention. With harvesting services, output would be handled properly and farmers would get good pricing and value for their crops opening an attractive market for your produce.

3. Product Logistics:

 Farm product logistics is another serious money making chain, once we can deal with this channel of delivering agricultural produce, the value of crop produce would increase with the cooperation of harvesting and packaging services, logistics can deliver harvested crops to processing plants from the farm to the packaging services and finally to the consumers. So, logistics in farm produce is another chain for money making.

4 Product Packaging :

Another critical part of agriculture not taken seriously is packaging, especially in Nigeria we package farm produce wrongly if not carelessly, one can make money through packaging services by giving more value to crops with an attractive finishing. 

5. Storage Facilities:

It is one major determinant of farm produce availability in markets and society at large, it is an important department in agriculture which can bring about development, employment and a great source of income. i.e the establishment of cold rooms is one example. Store houses as we may call it, can never depreciate, even after farming seasons are over Farm machineries and Other Non edible Products can still be stored inside.

6. Supplying of machinery services on farms:

This aspect of agricultural has to do with providing services of lite and heavy farm machineries, which could be used to help agricultural practices much easier. i.e the Planting machines can make planting seeds easier, The tractors can help in ploughing through soil easily and creating crevices or passage channels for water, or the breakdown of hard surfaces.
