England inflicted a first home defeat on Spain, a run that had lasted 38 games and 15 years since their last defeat against Greece in 2003.

Spain were brought back to earth with a shocking loss at home to England in Seville courtesy of a  pair of goals from Raheem Sterling either side of a Marus Rasford strike. Spain looked to be back to their imperious best in recent weeks under the tutelage of new coach Luis Enrique. The former Barça boss had racked up three wins including a 2-1 defeat of England at Wembley on his debut, scored 12 and conceded just 2 goals.

But under half an hour at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, that tally was equaled and they went on to concede 3 goals at home for the first time in a competitive fixture and in the opening half,  as Spain's defense was all over the place in the opening half and were ruthlessly punished by a very vibrant and clinical England side who scored with all of their attempts on goal.

Against the run of play England surged ahead with a training ground routine ;Jordan Pickford's played it long for  Harry Kane in the middle, who in turn released Rashford down the left and the Manchester United forward picked out Sterling with a perfect pass that allowed him score his first international goal in over three years, his last goal coming against Estonia in October 2015, a run that had lasted 1102 days.

Spain continued to probe but lacked precision and accuracy in the final third as both Iago Aspas and Rodrigo struggled to get going. Spain found themselves two goals down just before the half hour mark when Marcus Rashford duly converted a decisive pass from Harry kane, who in doing so assisted provided a brace of assist for the first time in an England shirt,  as Spain's back line continued to fonder.

A third followed as the rejuvenated Ross Barkley provided a wonderful pass over the top that  found Harry Kane who squared for Sterling for a simple tap in. Simple yet effectual as La Furia Roja defense was again brutally exposed.

However the injection of Dani Ceballos in midfield seemed to inject more purpose, vigour and decisiveness, especially in the final third as they looked to get back into the game.  As a result  they pulled a goal back from the in form Paco Alcacer, the on loan Dortmund striker from Barçelona scored with virtually his first touch since he was subbed on with a fine header from a corner. A goal that means he has now scored with his all of his 10 shots on targets this season and has now scored in 5 straight games for both club and country.

They nearly scored another moments later when Pickford's attempt  to dribble round Rodrigo backfired but he recovered well to just nick the ball off  the Valencia mam to safety. The Everton goalkeeper was perhaps a little fortunate a penalty was not awarded, much to the charging of the Spaniards who protested vehemently.

England's defensive organization was severely tested in the second half than at any time in the first period, but they stood their ground to run out 3-2 winners as Sergio Ramos' late header in the last kick of the match was made to amount to nothing but a mere consolation and made the scoreline resembled more of a contest that it truly was.

Also that  win moves the Three Lions  up to second with 4 points while Spain still remain atop with 6 points while world cup finalist remain bottom of the group with 1 point in the UEFA Nation's league standings.
