POVERTY NOT AN EXCUSE FOR PROSTITUTION.
By; Susan George
Life has never been easy. Most, have adopted a terrible habit of blaming our poor backgrounds for not making it in life. We forget that our backgrounds has nothing to do with the choices we make. They don't define whom and what we are neither what we want to achieve in life. Life in its self is about your "Never say never attitude". It is disheartening when you read newspaper's or some social media hearing both men and women who see noting wrong in prostituting their body, blaming hunger and poverty. Poor living standards shouldn't be an excuse for prostitution.
Don't let your poor background determine your destiny. I know of so many successful people who triumphed over adversity and made a name for themselves. A popular example is the life of former president of Nigeria Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, he came from a very poor home, look at his life today. He was able to triumph over poverty. I know of a girl who lost her mom while growing up as a child and was left with her drunk father. They were driven out of their house by the landlord and had no other choice than to move into an uncompleted building .On a norm she would be exposed to many things which can lead to prostitution but she never did, rather she learnt a skill which she used to train herself to the university level, today she is a graduate and currently taking good care of her family.
Life's up's and down shouldn't be viewed as problems but rather as challenges that needs to be tackled. Only when your mind conceives it, your heart believes and your body says yes I can, will success be imminent. Instead of indulging into prostitution, why not learn a skill, hard work really pays. Yes as some Nigerians will say" na condition, na make crayfish bend", that's were you get it all wrong. Prostitution is not a job . Being born poor is no excuse for failure. You can engage your self into good and meaningful ventures. Let your mentality be beyond sex, there are resources out there, get into some kind of work instead of prostituting.
I still believe that children from low income parents can excel in schools, career, skills without selling there bodies.
