    CHANGE NIGERIAN YOUTHS DESERVE

    By Sumakada Musa Amos

According to Merriam Webster's dictionary, Youth is a period when one is young or early period of existence. This is also the period of maximum productivity.

Change on the other hand is an act or process through which something becomes different. In other words, change is the process of causing a function, practice, or thing to become different compared to what it used to be.

The Nigerian youth has always been at the receiving end of bad governance and misfortunes which has befallen this nation over the years. They were always consoled and brainwashed with the slogan "you are the leaders of tomorrow" the tomorrow which never comes.

The change Nigerian youths has always been yearning for over the years is a genuine change, a positive change not the change promised, with no blueprint for actualization.

The change Nigerian youths needs is not rocket science, its not a mere say "we are giants of Africa", not even the table tennis kind of leadership change where power is been rotated among the same old folks who have little or nothing to offer to the Nigerian youths.

The change Nigerian youths need is a change of mentality; a change of mindset, the Nigerian youths has been made to believed that they are leaders of tomorrow and as such should not strive or aspires for anything until their tomorrow comes forgetting that our founding fathers and majority of our leaders today came to limelight in their 20s. Until the Nigerian youths are made to believe in themselves enough to be agents of change, the change Nigerian youths need will but remain a mirage.

The change Nigerian youths need is attitudinal Change. This is when we all imbibed an attitudinal change where both leaders and the led always do right. When this is attained, the future of Nigerian youths is secured.

The change Nigerian youths need is a change in our sociopolitical policies, policies that put the youths first, policies that will engage youths in policy making like the "not too young to run" bill passed into law last year. This bill reduced the age limits to contest any political office in Nigeria.

The change Nigerian youths needs is the wisdom of the elders to guide the youths not the manipulation of the wisdom of the elders against them as been seen over the years where youths are been used as political thugs during elections.

In conclusion, the Nigerian youth needs to believe, we are agents of change who can trigger the change so desired with guidance and wisdom of elders since we remain rich in ability, agility and virility.
